Mozambique Cyclone Kenneth Death Toll Sky Rockets To 38

Cyclone Kenneth death toll shoots up to 38 said the country’s disaster management institute.

Earlier on Monday, the death toll was sitting at a low five.

With wind gusts of up to 280 kilometres per hour Kenneth battered Mozambique’s northern coast on Thursday.

Following the battering, the region has been pounded by heavy downpours causing floods.

Six weeks ago, Cyclone Idai hit central Mozambique and communities in that region are still reeling from floods that swept away homes, roads and bridges, leaving around 1,000 people dead and hundreds of thousands without shelter.

This time, around 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) further north, the city of Pemba and its 400,000 inhabitants face similar dangers.

Before smashing into Mozambique, Kenneth lashed by the Comoros islands.
