Pearl Thusi to star in the next African original Netflix movie

Ready or not, Pearl Thusi is ready to give South Africans another good African original Netflix movie.

The movie will be named Queen Sono and the cast consists of; Vuyo Dabula, Enhle Maphumulo, Kate Liquorish, Loyiso Madinga, Sechaba Morojele, Chi Mhende, Rob Van Vuuren, Khathu Ramabulana, Abigail Kubekha, Otto Nobela, Connie Chiume, James Ngcobo and more.

“According to a statement released by Netflix – Queen Sono is an action-packed spy thriller produced by Johannesburg-based Diprente. Pearl Thusi stars in the title role as an unconventional spy working for an undercover South African agency devoted to protecting the people of Africa.” 

It will be directed by the award-winning director, Nosipho Dumisa. The director has already made her mark globally, with Nommer 37, which earned her the Cheval Noir jury prize for Best Director at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, Quebec.

Dumisa has also been nominated for best picture, among others, in this year’s  SAFTA awards. She said, “As a director who loves the genre, this series combines the best of so many and isn’t shy to delve into the real issues of youth culture, whilst jam-packing it with twists that will keep viewers guessing.”

Just a few months ago, Netflix also released another original African series titled Shadow which starred actors – Pallance Dladla and Amanda DuPont. If you haven’t had the chance to watch Shadow, make sure you do, only on Netflix.

Queen Sono will only be available for streaming in year 2020. Therefore let the countdown begin!
