Public health care patient’s ‘ill-treatment’ could come to an end

Following weeks of being under fire over inhumane treatment towards patients in public clinics and hospitals, Gauteng Health department in now stepping things up.

According to Gauteng Health MEC Bandile Masuku, they will now introduce “intervention programmes” set to address this dilemma and prevent such treatment from occurring again.

“The interventionists programmes that we’ve to come up with are the ones to change the attitudes, change the work ethic and understand the entire system. I know that there’s no human being that goes to work to hurt somebody.”

In Mamelodi, on Sunday, a 45-year-old high-risk pregnant woman gave birth outside the Stanza Bopape Clinic claiming that instead of the clinic’s staffers helping her, they referred her to hospital.

In a separate incident, Mamelodi Day Hospital thrust into the spotlight for the wrong reasons after a picture of a 76-year-old woman chained to a bench trended.
