German carmaker Volkswagen seems to have discontinued the Golf GTD in SA as it is no longer listed on VW SA’s website.
The GTD joined the SA market in 2017 and by the look of things, we have never been keen to oil burner performance vehicles here because we just don’t seem to like high-performance diesel hatches.
The GTD looks almost exactly like the GTI, so many of the uninformed would battle to tell the difference. The die-hard GTI fans will take pains to point out each and every difference.
The GTD employs a 2.0-litre turbodiesel with power rated at 130 kW and the torque at a decent 350 Nm.
With the GTD dropped off the list, the local Golf range comprises of the Trendline, Comfortline TSI, GTI and R.
We contacted VWSA to obtain an official statement about the discontinuation of the GTD, indeed the second generation GTD is not coming to SA.
