Police Minister, Bheki Cele announced that he will be sending the South African National Defence Force to the Cape Flats.
Together with the South African Police Service, the SANDF will be working hand in hand to battle the horrific crimes that have taken the community by storm.
Speaking in Parliament on Thursday Cele challenged the SAPS generals to improve or leave.
“In recent years, the tide of crime in the country has revealed a dreadful trend. We are confronted with the sad reality of multiple burial activities. The scenes of dead bodies in Philippi, Mitchell’s plan is unbearable.
“I challenge all general in saps to surrender their uniforms if this situation does not improve. The battle recovers and dedicated force that is equal to the task.”
Cele is thinking of even extending the operation beyond Cape Town and Philippi to the whole metropole.
The National Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole has promised to deal with the situation at the Philippi East station before the month ends.
