National Police Minister Bheki Cele was given a go-ahead by President Cyril Ramaphosa to send troops to Western Cape.

The minister finally had enough of the crime and killings in the province and decided that something needed to be done.

Cele made the announcement during a briefing after his budget speech following the Philippi and Hanover Park massacre which left a dozen of lives lost.

He said a crime-fighting plan for Cape Town needs to extend beyond Philippi to the entire metropole.

National Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole has made a promise to deal with key appointments at the Philippi East station before the end of the month following these recent killings, however, the motive has not yet been offered by the police.

The DA’s Shadow Minister of Police Andrew Whitfield mentioned that this is the result of being poor, where poorer communities are easily targeted by gangs and gang violence.

He said more police officers have to be deployed.
