#SowetoLooting: Is it payback or are South Africans just heartless?

South Africans woke up to strange news on Thursday of attacks on foreign national’s shops that occurred all over Soweto on Wednesday night.

According to people living in Soweto, the foreign nationals sell fake and expired goods and as a result this harm and threaten their health and safety and that of their children.

@Sgoloza007, a Twitter user wrote, ” Apparently two kids died after consuming goods bought from “my friend (foreign national selling in a supermarket) ” shop, now wouldn’t u be angry if u let people run a business in your neighbourhood only to find out that they selling fake goods that kill people #Sowetolooting

However, some are saying that this makes no sense because the same people that say the food is expired and fake are the ones looting and taking the food that is supposedly threatening their health.

For some, this is just payback for attacks carried out by foreign nationals on South African police in Central Johannesburg on August, 1.

@Neinei_Ngubs, another Twitter user commented, “This #Sowetolooting is too much… The people are angry cause of wat happened in Joburg but how does breaking and looting a shop help the situation? If its change people want y is it not being implemented positively? Open ur own Spaza moss”

The question still stands, was it payback or is it just another heartless attack carried out by South Africans?
