Orlando Pirates head coach Milutin Sredojević has relinquished his position at the helm after two seasons, citing “personal reasons”.

‘Micho’ joined Pirates in 2017 after coaching the Ugandan national team from 2013, until he left the Cranes for a second stint at Pirates.

Despite results not forthcoming for the Mayfair outfit in their past two matches, where they lost 1-0 to Green Eagles in Zambia before being trounced 3-0 by SuperSport United in midweek, the news still came as a shock.

The Serbian mentor has heavily been tipped with a move to North Africa and was reportedly shortlisted by Egyptian giants Zamalek, though that position has since been filled by Aleksandar Stanojević.

The Buccaneers released a statement via the club’s official website on Friday night to confirm the coach’s exit.

“Milutin Sredojević relinquishes his position as Head Coach of Orlando Pirates Football Club after two seasons at the helm.

“The Club would like to place on record that this decision was taken unilaterally, and it was the management’s decision to accept Mr. Sredojević to vacate his position based on reasons he has presented which are of a personal nature.

“Rhulani Mokwena assumes coaching responsibilities assisted by Fadlu Davids and Franck Plaine, ” the statement read.
