It looks like the African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng is not willing as yet to accede to the national leadership request for the removal of one male MEC in the executive.

The provincial secretary Jacob Khawe has admitted that the provincial leadership will further consult with the motherboard on how to find a solution on their request.

The ANC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) ordered Premier David Makhura to remove one male MEC in his executive in order to balance gender parity.

However, Khawe says the provincial leadership will try to negotiate with the national leadership on this request.

” We agreed by the end of this week, we should seek an audience with national office bearers of the ANC,” Khawe said.

” We think these meetings would allow us a space to present our view, but also give us wisdom and guidance from the national leadership.”

Makhura has 50/50 representation in his executive, however, the NEC took a resolution that for every province which is led by a man, women should be the majority in the executive.
